The party has officially stopped in Kano State. In a move that has sparked heated debates across social media, the Kano State Censorship Board has ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment centers and the total suspension of DJ operations throughout the state for the duration of Ramadan 2026.
The 10:00 PM Deadline
The directive, which was announced by the board's spokesperson, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, took full effect on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 10:00 PM.
According to the board, this isn't just a suggestion—it's a total shutdown. All venues popularly known as "Gala Houses" and all professional Disc Jockeys (DJs) have been told to pack up their equipment and lock their doors until the holy month is over.
Why the Sudden Ban?
The government claims this move is necessary to create a "calm and morally conducive environment" for the Muslim faithful to observe their fasting without distractions.
"The action is intended to create a peaceful environment for residents to observe the Ramadan fast in accordance with religious injunctions," Sulaiman stated.
The board further warned that enforcement teams have already been mobilized. Anyone caught hosting a party or playing loud music during this period will face "appropriate sanctions," which could include heavy fines or permanent closure of their business.
"Are Weddings Exempt?" – The Confusion
While the ban is strict on "entertainment centers" and gala houses, there has been some confusion among residents. Initial reports suggest that traditional event centers used for weddings and conferences might be exempt from the total closure, but the use of loud music and DJs at these venues is still strictly prohibited.
Mixed Reactions
Kano residents are divided. While many religious conservatives are praising the move as a way to "sanitize" the state during the holy month, business owners and DJs are crying foul, claiming they will lose millions of Naira in revenue during a time when the economy is already tough.
