The people of Kano State are in deep mourning this Monday morning following a devastating road accident that has claimed at least 30 lives and left many others fighting for their survival.
The tragedy, which occurred at Kwanar Barde in the Gezawa Local Government Area, involved a trailer heavily loaded with both passengers and goods. Eyewitnesses report that the vehicle, which was heading towards Gujungu in Jigawa State, lost control due to alleged reckless driving before veering off the highway.
The Heartbreaking Details
Initial reports from the scene describe a chaotic and emotional site as rescue teams worked to recover victims from the wreckage. While the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has officially confirmed 7 deaths and 70 injuries in a "lone accident" involving a DAF trailer (Reg No: KTG 467 YG), local authorities and eyewitnesses at the scene insist the death toll has climbed to over 30 people as many succumbed to their injuries.
The cause of the crash has been attributed to a deadly combination of speeding, reckless driving, and the dangerous practice of mixing human passengers with heavy goods.

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has described the incident as "heartbreaking and a grave loss" to the state. In an immediate response to the scale of the tragedy, the Governor has directed:
Free Medical Care: The Kano State Ministry of Health must provide comprehensive and prompt medical services to all survivors at no cost.
Humanitarian Assessment: The Office of the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs is to immediately assess the casualties to support the bereaved families.
