FINALLY! FG Begins Payment of 40% Allowance Increase for University Lecturers (ASUU)
In a major move to stabilize the education sector, the Federal Government has begun rolling out the key welfare provisions from its renegotiated 2025 agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
According to the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, a 40 percent increase in the Consolidated Academic Allowance (CAA) is now effective, starting from January 1, 2026.
Details of the Payment:
Some federal universities have already begun reflecting the increment in salary payments.
The increase covers the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), which is tax-free.
Vice-chancellors have been formally directed to integrate the increase into their payroll systems immediately.
